FISH TALES #1 -LATE APRIL AND FLORIDA SNOOK

April 28th took place with over cast skies giving away to a downpour of nearly 2 hours slowly depleting to a constant light rain with temperatures in the mid50's F.
The week before saw sunny days and temperatures in the mid 70's F helping slowly melt the snow pack and bringing waters up to a feeding temperature.

Pictured are some of the fish landed on April 28th

Having spent 10 days in Florida and not knowing what the conditions were, I went on an investigation of streams/rivers local and far to see what shape they were in.
Most waters were high and very hard to fish, with such conditions I opted for a river with a small drainage area and was rewarded with slightly high water with good clarity, all structure was readable and a temperature of 54F....this made for a landing of 35 fish, mostly wild browns and a few native brook trout.

All fish were landed and released by slowly nymphing the bottom with a # 8 Ausable Ugly or #8 "ITFW" Bitch Creek .

Night fishing for Florida Snook

Wanting to fish at night for snook under dock lighting systems,  I hired Capt. Eric Davis to guide  me under this  condition, he put me on approx. 20++ snook that night using a small Clouser streamer or Polarfiber Minnow.

Eric Davis is the best fly fishing guide on the Indian River system located in Florida on the East Coast, by all means if you want a great trip and have multiple chances to hook and land fish, hire this guide!!

Please see guide's and my efforts.

This is many of the snook landed and released.
